Free Range Chicken

Some farmers raise their chickens on battery farms, which means that instead of being free to roman in a reasonably sized enclosure for at least some of the day, they are confined to a small cage. Often these cages are very tiny and the chicken doesn’t have enough room to move freely. In many cases the chickens are placed in the cage with other chickens and the animal doesn’t have enough room to move at all, which is not good for the welfare of the animals. 

Battery farming has received a lot of media coverage over the last few years because of the inhumane conditions that the poultry is subjected to.

Chelsea Meats made a decision that we would not support battery farming and therefore we only stock free range chicken. Unlike battery farmed chicken, free range chicken comes from farms where the animals have plenty of space to roma freely. In reality, most Australian farmers raise their chickens in free range conditions where they are free to roam in an enclosed space. This enclosed space is generally a paddock or a chicken coop where the chickens have the ability to roam free.

In addition to selling free range chicken, our chicken comes from La Ionica Chicken. Their chickens are free from chemicals, making them free range and organic which is better for both the chickens and you as the consumer.  The chicken has a more natural taste that you would expect if you raised it yourself.

Although supermarkets are stocking more free range chicken and eggs, only about 16% of their stock comes from free range farms whereas all of the chicken that we sell is free range chicken. We sell whole chickens when you feel like serving the whole family a traditional chicken roast. We also sell marinated and un-marinated chicken wings, chicken chops, breast fillets and thigh fillets. All of our free range chicken starts in quantities of 500 grams and you can buy as much or as little as you want. You can also choose to get it cryo packaged so you can freeze it and use it later on when you’re ready.
